TLB is an enhanced replacement of the Quick Launch Bar on Windows Vista and earlier. It can show folders as menus, letting you keep the bar compact yet keep many shortcuts in there.

TLB was shareware prior to version 8.0; a free replacement with fewer features, Free Launch Bar, is also available.

Versions 1 to 3 are 32-bit only. Versions 4 to 7 support both 32-bit and 64-bit. Version 8 is 64-bit only.

A FAQ page on 20011121 stated that TLB can't run on Windows 3.1 and Windows NT 3.5x.

4.0: tlbhost.exe error: MonitorFromWindow in USER32.dll; tlbupd.exe works; TLB is added to the toolbar menu, but clicking on the menu item doesn't actually add TLB

4.3: shows this error when installing:

XP and above

On XP, 1.0.9.0 works, but the bar is at the right, instead of left. The background is grey instead of transparent. 1.0.10.0 doesn't work, triggers DEP and crashes explorer. 1.1.0.17 works normally.

On XP and Vista, 7.2 and above don't work. On XP, tlbhost.exe "is not a valid Win32 application", while on Vista it fails because K32EnumProcesses is not available.

4.0, the oldest 64-bit version, still works on Vista to 10 despite a warning from Windows saying it's not compatible.

I can't test 32-bit versions of Vista and above for now.

FLB support status

FLB only ever had two versions: 1.0 and 2.0. 1.0 was released on 20041122 (source) with claimed support of 9x/Me/2000/NT4/XP, 32-bit only. 2.0 was released on 20090414 (source) with claimed support of 9x/Me/2000/NT4/XP/Vista, both 32-bit and 64-bit. However, the page was updated between 20110727 and 20110904 to change the claimed supported versions to XP/Vista/7, without changing the program. FLB 2.0 actually doesn't work with NT4, 98SE and Me.
